Marble Countertop Stain Removal Tips
August 27, 2024We know that it can be stressful when it comes to maintaining the beauty and integrity of your marble, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are our marble countertop stain removal prevention and tips:
Stain and etch prevention is the key to success
- Keep the countertops sealed with a long-life sealer like Dry Treat
- The ASW Team also offers a Care and Maintenance Program for our installed countertops
Use a barrier between beverages and your countertops
- Coasters and serving trays are a great solution to keep a barrier between beverages and your marble.
- Clear acrylic, glass, and mirrored serving surfaces are excellent choices for a clean look.
Once a drip or spill happens you are on the clock
- Wipe up the spill immediately with the closest available paper towel or rag
- Clean the spot with a pH neutral, streak free cleaner designed for natural stone like 409 Stain and Seal or something similar.
If you notice a drip or spill that has set in
- Clean the area with your natural stone cleaner of choice and dry the area
- Make a poultice of rubbing alcohol and baking soda.
-
-
Thoroughly wet the area with the alcohol to “wet” the stain. This aids in the removal
-
Apply the poultice liberally to the stain, cover with plastic wrap, and tape down the edges
-
Remove in 24 hrs to see progress
-
Rinse and repeat until the stain has become as light and inconspicuous as desired.
-
Please note that it is very common not to be able to fully remove dark, wine stains, so the goal is to lighten them to something only noticeable to you. Also, if the texture of the marble has changed (i.e etching) or if you have quartzite, do not apply a poultice and contact a professional.
